Writing - an update

I've been busy 'working' on my collection of personal essays and poems for some time now and I wrote this in my journal this morning and decided to share it here:

"On The Single Parent essay - turning experience into the art of writing is not only creative and powerful, it's so revealing, healing even and very rewarding to the self. Weaving words, on complex issues and life's events is an art in itself, as there are so many layers that have to be dispersed and yet they're connected, like a pebble thrown into the ocean has an effect - a ripple effect and a never-ending movement, which may change the ocean's wave patterns; fluidity - nothing ever stays still or stays the same; there is a constant and continuous flux of movement, of activity, however slight.

"And, I've learned so much from each essay that I write; each one appears to be an 'improvement' on the previous one, especially The Single Parent, maybe because this one, this role, has played such a big and significant part of my life in ways that I am seeing with fresh new eyes and yet each piece of creative writing brings different artistic dimensions!

"I love the artistic process; painting with words - the freedom of my mind, body and spirit to create a narrative about my personal life and express it in challenging ways. The ideas come (and go) and I try out, experiment even, since until you have a go, you won't discover what works on your blank canvas.

"Ah, the beauty of the personal essay genre, that and poetry, are my two favourite methods to write in and as 'free' as it is, there is a discipline always; a structure, a form of my choosing and I love that too.

"As I write, the piece takes shape and I can then reflect; the words flowing always in my head until they reach the page."
