Trees at a Sanatorium - Shaun Levin

Along with Sylph Editions and Piano Nobile Gallery, I joined Shaun Levin for the launch of his new book, Trees at a Sanatorium, held today at Kings Place http://www.kingsplace.co.uk/

The book is part of a new series of monographic explorations of 20th- and 21st-century paintings. The first folio explores Mark Gertler's painting "The Bathers", pictured above, which was hanging at the launch party!

Shaun Levin's story was written specifically for this publication. It is a meditation on landscape and the importance of intimacy in artistic creation. Levin wrote this story visiting places where Gertler stayed - whether out of choice or necessity - from the sanitorium at Banchory in Scotland, to Catalonia, to Paris and the gardens at Garsington Manor.
