Be Your Own Best Life Coach

On 29th October, I went to the launch of Jackee Holder’s new book Be Your Own Best LIFE COACH, held at Brixton Library, South London. I even met Tamara Gausi on the tube, who was busily researching in readiness for her host role that evening.

I was particularly looking forward to this event, since I had met Jackee a few times but had not seen her for many years. I was eager to hear about her recent achievement and can only say that the evening was a breath of fresh air as Jackee, interviewed by Tamara, shared her vision for the book and her journey to its publication.

I met quite a few familiar faces, including Esther Poyer who provided a refreshing poetry reading, which just added to the richness and warmth of the event. Later that evening, I took the book to bed with me and this is what happened – but firstly, a bit about the book – The rear cover states, ‘Working with a life coach is a brilliant way of taking stock of your life, working out career and personal goals and discovering ways of achieving these ambitions. Here professional life coach Jackee Holder guides you through 52 brilliant ideas that will help you plan the life you want and provide the motivation to make it happen (all without burning a hold in your wallet)’

Back to what happened when I took the book to bed with me. It was late and so I planned on just reading a couple of the brilliant ideas – however, although I found the book easy to pick up, I found the book hard to put down! I found myself compelled to keep reading these ideas, making little notes on my yellow stickers and eventually tiredness got the better of me…

…well, so I thought. Even though I succumbed to my eyes demanding closure and my body demanding sleep, my thoughts had been stirred, which meant switching back on my bedside lamp and making further notes as these bite size gems stirred circling thoughts of my own ideas into play. My awareness had been heightened and I felt glad that I had made the trip to ensure I got my copy of Jackee’s book.

The book has a way of drawing you right in and I ended up reading about six chapters, including 'Write it down and make it happen', 'Small is the new big' and 'Secrets of the shadow', the outcome of which led me to feel inspired and motivated enough to put a few of those brilliant ideas into action the next day. The great thing is that you can dip in and out choosing any of the ideas to read. I can’t wait to read further…

Hi Nicole

It was great reading your comments. Why? Because your experience is exactly what I hope for readers of Be Your Own Best Life Coach. I wanted to write a book which was not just about knowing but about doing. After all don't we all just know so much and know what to do! - but don't always get to it. Your right on track with your post it notes and acting on the tips and activities in 'Here's An Idea for You.' These are the meat of the book and mark the readers from the doers. What's great about when you try out one of the ideas is that it will take you where you need to go. Last week I received an amazing email from another reader who gained some deep insights as she started working through the book. She hit on the chapter that invited her to transform. It was a big revelation but she was able to work through it. Whether you follow the book literally or not doesn't matter. But the moment you take action all manner of things unfold. Thanks for sharing your experience. I hope it will encourage others to dip in.
